Hilton Hawaiian Cultural Ambassador (Casual) - Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort in Wailea, Hawaii

The gorgeous Waldorf Astoria Resort in Maui, Grand Wailea, is looking for a Hawaiian Cultural Ambassador to join the Team!

Located on 40 acres of lush tropical gardens, this Forbes 4-Star, AAA 4-Diamond property is consistently ranked among the world's best resorts with 780 rooms, 100,000 square feet of banquet space, and 7 food and beverage outlets. This includes 3 restaurants, 3 bars, a cafe, and in-room dining.

  • Classification: Casual
  • Shift: Various – must have availability to work weekends, weekdays, and holidays. (Will be working at least one weekend day and another day during the week, will help cover current Full-Time shifts)

What will I be doing?

Craftunforgettable experiences and activities that not only showcase our rich cultural heritage but also set Grand Wailea apart as the premier resort in Hawaiʻi.Collaborate with the Cultural Programming Manager to design and deliver exceptional guest experiences that honor our island's traditions and values, while also providing seamless support to ensureeach is successful.

The essential function of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Create & facilitate Hawaiian cultural classes and demonstrations for guests.Classes include but are not limited to:ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, hula, ‘ukulele, lei making, poi pounding, ‘ohe kāpala, ‘upena kiloi, and kaula.
  • Research, develop,and implement on-going enhanced cultural activities, events, and immersive experiencesto further differentiate Grand Wailea as the paramount Hawai‘i resort for cultural integration and innovation.
  • Offer guidance in the use of Hawaiian cultural practices, language, and traditions to departments
  • Support internal Team Member initiatives such as but not limited to Team Member recognition programs, service anniversaries, Keiki Party, Team Member Holiday party, Team Member survey, discount programs, etc.
  • Provide cultural welcomes and sense-of-place openings for VIPs, Discovery Visits, Pre-Cons, and group opening receptionsalongside Cultural Programming Manager or on behalf of Cultural Programming Manager
  • Create and facilitate Hawaiian cultural training classes for GW team members in such things as, but not limited to: Hawaiian language, history, cultural traditions and crafts, Hawaiian values.
  • Facilitate cultural trainings during leadership meetings.

The ideal candidate will have some of the following knowledge, skills or abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the Hawaiian Language
  • In-depth knowledge of the Hawaiian Culture and class subjects
  • Must have working knowledge and able to instruct in specialty classes: Hawaiian Culture, History, Language, and various traditional Hawaiian practices and lifestyle.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively with resort guests and other team members.
  • Ability to extend arms, stoop, stand, bend, and walk in public areas for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to read reports.
  • Ability to write sign-out logs and monitor inventory.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work in cold and hot weather.
  • Computer literate.
  • Detail oriented and flexibility to easily adapt.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and professional skills.

Pay Rate: The hourly rate is $30.00 per hour and is based on applicable and specialized experience and location.
